Hi, I’m Nat Arias (they/them/theirs). I am a Black queer genderfluid researcher, speaker, educator and LGBT+ advocacy specialist.
I received my PhD in International Development from the University of Sussex in 2023. Before my PhD, I was a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Consultant (MEL) specialising in Gender in Social and Public Health programming. My life and projects are embedded in postcolonial, transfeminist and intersectional feminist ethics.
In 2024, I was commissioned by EL*C, a lesbian human rights network, to conduct the first international study focusing on racism and lesbophobia in Europe. I led the team exploring how Black and racialised lesbians* are affected by discrimination in accessing political participation, employment, housing and healthcare in Europe.
This project was co-led with the founders of Romnja Feminist Library and Central Asian migrant lesbian activists.
In 2025, I co-authored the human rights report, “On the Lived Experiences of Roma, Central Asian, and Racialized Lesbians in Europe”, for EL*C in 2025.
I freelance as a researcher, learning consultant, sensitivity reader and proofreader.
